A call for young people all around the world to demand climate action from their leaders has been made by Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama.

More than 1000 youth contributors from 114 countries, including Fiji are in Bonn, Germany in the lead up to COP23 to discuss climate change in a programme comprised of 225 single events.

Bainimarama has also called on them to support Fiji’s Presidency of COP 23 which begins tomorrow.

Thousands of people have gathered in the German city of Bonn ahead of next week’s COP 23 conference which ratifies the Paris climate deal.

The protesters are calling for the measures set out in the accord to be implemented faster; namely a move away from coal to renewable resources.

Around 25,000 people are expected to attend the UN climate change conference in Bonn; a huge logistical challenge for Germany which has never hosted an intergovernmental gathering of this size.

The UN Climate Change Conference, COP 23 will begin tomorrow and will end next Friday.
