PM calls for civil service efficiency

Public servants working for the government departments and ministries have been told to clear all the clogs in the systems that hinder rural development.

During his tour of Lau, the Prime Minister was told by a teacher from Kabara District School that the school’s kindergarten teacher sometimes has to wait for as long as two months before receiving her pay.

Commodore Bainimarama told the government officials accompanying him that such clogs don’t augur well for the government agenda of rural development and service provided to villages and communities should not be affected.

He said that public servants should be doing all they can to support civil servants in rural areas, and not sit comfortably in their homes and offices in Suva and forget their colleagues out in the rural areas.

Commodore Bainimarama reminded all civil servants that work in regional development offices and those that look after rural services to make sure that their colleagues in the rural areas are well looked after.
