Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama has just announced in his New Year’s message to the nation that the Public Emergency Regulation will cease from Saturday, January 7th.
Commodore Bainimarama highlighted that the lifting of the PER is to facilitate for the consultations on the new constitution which will commence from next month.
He said as we move forward, Fijians must be vigilant and not allow a few to dictate the destiny of our country for their own selfish needs.
However, Commodore Bainimarama stressed that public order is to be maintained.
The PER has been in place in Fiji since 10th April 2009.
