Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama has acknowledged the enduring support of the Japanese Government particularly in infrastructure while meeting with the Japanese Minister for Foreign Affairs Taro Kono.

Bainimarama says Japan’s assistance towards the Nadi River widening project, the Tamavua‑i‑Wai bridge and the school rebuilding project after TC Winston and others have been greatly appreciated.

He says Fiji regards Japan as a positive force in the country and the Pacific, a partner in development and a source of expertise and practical solutions to many daily challenges.

He adds this was also a boost to Fiji’s socio‑economic development.

Bainimarama also highlighted Fiji’s participation at the Pacific Islands Leaders Meeting and commended the Japanese Government for its commitment towards the PALM process and in using this platform to enhance relations with Pacific Island countries.

Meanwhile, the Japanese Minister for Foreign Affairs met the Foreign Affairs Minister Inia Seruiratu where it was announced that Fiji will be hosting the Pacific Islands Leaders Meeting next year.
