Over 57,000 illicit cigarettes seized at maritime ports by FRCS

Over 57,740 undeclared cigarette sticks have been seized by the Fiji Revenue and Customs Service Maritime Seaport Enforcement Team in the last financial year.

FRCS says cigarettes being highly dutiable goods are often smuggled by seafarers to evade import duties, causing revenue losses vital for national development.

FRCS emphasized its commitment to intercepting illegal activities, enforcing customs laws, and protecting government revenue.

They add travellers and shipping agents are urged to declare goods honestly, with penalties awaiting non-compliance.

CEO Udit Singh also highlighted that smuggling undermines fairness for compliant taxpayers and pledged stronger border control measures to safeguard Fiji’s development.
