More than 50 ginger farmers participated in a 2 day training workshop organised by the Fiji Crop and Livestock Council supported by the Ministry of Agriculture and the Fiji Ginger Farmers Association.

This was done in coordination with the Fiji Development Bank.

As part of the value chain analysis and market development, ginger farmers as the main players of the ginger production supply chain are expected to be highly skilled and knowledgeable.

The overall goal of the workshop was to strengthen the capacity of the ginger farmers, their clusters or producer organisations, and key stakeholders to equip them with the right knowledge, skills and tools.

Fiji Crop and Livestock Council CEO Jiu Daunivalu says this has been done to ensure farmers have a holistic overview of the ginger industry.

Daunivalu says the common goal is to achieve sustainable production, meeting market requirements and supporting farming families’ livelihoods.
