More than 38,000 marijuana plants have been uprooted by the Operation Cavuraka team currently in the Navosa Highlands.

Chief of Intelligence and Investigations, ACP Luke Navela said the teams consisting of officers from the Fiji Police Force and the Republic of Fiji Military Forces have so far uprooted more than 38,400 plants as the operation gains momentum.

He said there has been more support from members of the public with the exchange of information which has led to arrests.

Items such as generators and household appliances have also been seized as investigations into proceeds of crime also gains momentum due to the unexplained wealth of some of the suspects.

Navela said with the latest development of support shown by the people of Navosa, the operation team is encouraged and motivated to locate and destroy the farms no matter how hard it will be to do so.

A man believed to be one of the drug lords in the Navosa area continues to be questioned and his arrest was possible through information supplied by members of the public.

The suspect had led the operation team to a farm where 5,500 marijuana farms were found.
