The Land Transport Authority has also suspended the vehicle registration of two companies after they were found to be repeatedly overloading their vehicles.
A total of nine vehicles had their registrations suspended for a period of 12 months by the LTA.
LTA Board Chairman Vijay Maharaj says the LTA is sending a strong warning to other companies that they will be also be taken to task for habitual offending.
Maharaj says those companies found to be frequently offending and demonstrating a continuous disregard of the LTA Act and Regulations with the repeated offence will be show‑caused and dealt with accordingly.
He adds that in order to further curb the issue of vehicle overloading, the LTA has acquired four portable scales, in addition to the three fixed and two portable scales already in use.
The scales have arrived into the country and have undergone certification with weights and measures.
