Tevita Deve who is convicted for assaulting his wife is a free man now

A 34-year-old man who is convicted for assaulting his wife is a free man now as he has served his sentence during the remand period.

Tevita Deve was sentenced to 18 months today and he has served 2 years and 3 months in remand.

Deve was initially charged for murdering his wife in 2018 and the assessors had found him guilty for the charge.

However, High Court Judge Justice Rangajeeva Wimalasena overturned opinion yesterday and found Deve guilty for one count of assault causing actual bodily harm.

The incident happened in Ovalau.
