Police commissioner Sitiveni Qiliho says next year their war on drugs will be relentless as they aim to get those involved in this illegal trade off our streets.
In his New Year’s message Qiliho says they are not going to stop because a single roll or a few grams of hard drugs has a debilitating effect on the user, their family, the community and the nation.
Qiliho says they are never going to be disheartened by their critics that say the war on drugs is a losing battle.
He says in the coming few weeks they will be releasing the crime statistics for 2017.
The Police commissioner says this year they have also made progress in working with religious organizations in addressing crimes against women and children.
He says being moral crimes, engaging the support of religious organizations to help create awareness about the need to protect our women and children in their homes or communities will continue to be an area of priority this coming year.
Qiliho says too many of our women and children are falling victims at the hands of their loved ones, and this has to stop and he is urging everyone to help us protect our women and children.
He says aggravated robberies and burglaries are two serious crimes that they will also try to improve on policing in 2018.
He admits there are shortfalls from their end and they are working on remedying those, knowing very well the devastation caused when one becomes a victim of these two crimes.
Qiliho says that in 2018, they will be banking on the collective good will of every Fijian to look after one another and take pride in their neighbourhoods and prevent it from becoming a crime prone area.
He adds he can assure every Fijian that they will do their best to improve their services and do away with the negative issues that have often impacted the way they are perceived by members of the public.
He says they have removed officers who have proven to have ulterior motives for wearing their police uniform as Fijians deserve only the best from their Fiji Police Force.
