Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama says the last time that Fiji ushered in a Year of the Pig, our nation was a very different place indeed and he had just become Prime Minister.

While officiating at the Chinese New Year Celebrations at the Civic Auditorium, Bainimarama says he knew he had quite a task ahead to take our nation forward.

Bainimarama says that since then, Fiji has seen a record‑breaking streak of economic growth, taken a position of regional and global prominence, and brought new opportunities and prosperity to our country.

He adds that the Chinese community has been an integral part of our society.

More than 200 Fijians of Chinese descent were part of the celebrations.
