Members of the Oneata Cricket Team in the Lau group were thrilled after receiving a major boost with the donation of new equipment from the Prime Minister’s Office.

The equipment is worth more than $4,550. It was fully funded by the Office of the Prime Minister under the Small Grants Scheme.

While speaking to the team, Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama says the government recognises the potential of youths as part of the broader vision of empowering them to become agents of change and also to promote development in sports.

He adds that sport is one of many important ways the government supports national development.

The Prime Minister has also urged the team to make good use of the equipment and demonstrate good sportsmanship while on the field.
