Olympics: Fiji settles for silver after 28-7 loss to France

The Fiji Men’s 7s side settled for silver in the Paris Olympics Rugby 7s Competition after losing to France 28-7 in the final this morning.

Fiji started strong with a try to Joseva Talacolo in the first minute to lead 7-0.

France responded with a try to Jefferson-Lee Joseph in the fifth minute to tie the match at 7-all.

The second half saw French captain Paulin Riva crossing the try line to put the host nation ahead with a 14-7 lead.

Antoine Dupont did not disappoint the fans as he scored another two tries to put France in the history books.

This is Fiji's first-ever loss in an Olympic rugby 7s match.

Meanwhile, South Africa beat Australia 26-19 to claim the bronze medal.

In other results this morning, Uruguay beat Japan 21-10 in the 11th place playoff, Kenya defeated Samoa 10-5 in the 9th place playoff, Argentina thumped the USA 19-0 in the 7th place playoff, and New Zealand beat Ireland 17-7 in the 5th place playoff.
