Olympics Athletics: Bahrain’s Yavi sets new Olympic Record in Women’s 3,000m Steeple Chase

Winfred Yavi of Bahrain has set a new Olympic Record while winning the Women’s 3,000 metres Steeple Chase at the Paris Olympics this morning.

Yavi broke Gulnara Samitova-Galkin’s 16 year record of 8.58.81 from Beijing in 2008 with a time of 8.52.76.

Peruth Chemutai of Uganda won silver while Kenya’s Faith Cherotich got bronze.

Coming up tonight, the Men’s High Jump qualification is on at 8.05pm, Women’s 100 metres Hurdles at 8.15pm, Women’s Javelin qualification at 8.25pm and the Men’s 5,000 metres round 1 starts at 9.10pm.

Looking at the medal tally, the USA leads with 24 gold, 31 silver and 31 bronze, China are in second place with 22 gold, 21 silver and 16 bronze, while Australia is third with 14 gold, 12 silver and 9 bronze.
