OFC Women’s Nations Cup: Fiji Kulas qualify for semi finals despite 1-0 loss to Vanuatu

The Fiji Kulas have qualified for the semi finals despite a hard-fought 1-0 loss to Vanuatu in their third pool match of the OFC Women’s Nations Cup at HFC Bank Stadium last night.

Leimata Simon scored the decisive goal for Vanuatu.

Kulas captain Jotivini Tabua was shown a red card in the 19th minute for foul play.

Fiji created several opportunities but couldn’t convert them, with the chances ultimately not falling in their favour.

Coach Angeline Chua says the team will need to sharpen their finishing as they prepare for the semi finals.

Chua says this was not the result they wanted and either of the opponents will be a tough competition.

Vanuatu's goal keeper Courtney Napa has been awarded the Player of the Match.

In the semi finals, the Kulas take on Papua New Guinea while Solomon Islands faces Samoa.

The semi finals begin at 3pm on Wednesday. The venue is yet to be determined.
