No further Police statements expected regarding the alleged assault of a Naqia Villager in Wainibuka

No further statements are expected to be made by Police about the alleged assault of a 32-year-old man in Naqia Village in Wainibuka, Tailevu last Saturday until the investigation is complete.

Police Chief of Intelligence and Investigations ACP Biu Matavou says they will issue a statement once the investigation is complete.

There is a parallel investigation by the Criminal Investigations Department and Internal Affairs Department underway.

The man was allegedly thrown off the Naqia Village bridge.

The serious claims first surfaced on Facebook on Saturday where the man’s sister claimed that her brother was allegedly thrown off the bridge by police officers in civilian clothing.

There were also claims that the brother was allegedly assaulted and an attempt was also allegedly made to drown him in the river.

The man remains admitted at the CWM Hospital.

He had to undergo surgery.
