No expulsion policy amended

No expulsion policy amended
Education Minister Filipe Bole has today directed his permanent secretary to look at the no expulsion policy for students and to work on a case by case basis if there is a need to expel a student from a school.

Bole said Doctor Brij Lal has been told that all principals should be advised that they can take the step to suspend or even expel a student if there are extremely serious situations and such action needs to be taken.

Up to this afternoon, a general policy was in place that no student should be expelled despite what they do to ensure that they continue with their education.

Bole said the decision will now be based on a case by case basis.

He said the ministry cannot continue to see people involved in illegal activities and nothing being done.

Bole said he also knows that police will take students to task if they are involved in criminal activities.
