No charges to be laid against FTUC members

No charges will be laid against Fiji Trades Union Congress members who tried to hold the gathering without a permit in Nadi on Saturday.

Permanent Secretary for Information Sharon Smith Johns said police have decided not to lay charges as the meeting had not begun when police told the members they do not have a permit.

Johns said in a statement that it is worrying that this is the second breach of the PER by the FTUC in a short time, despite various warnings handed out by Government.

Earlier this month, FTUC President Daniel Urai was arrested and charged along with a Dinesh Gounder with one count each of unlawful assembly.

Urai along with Goundar are expected to re appear in court on the 2nd of next month.
