No bail for teacher charged with rape

Prosecution lawyers in the case of a teacher who is charged with 4 counts of rape, 2 counts of indecent assault and 7 counts of sexual assault have been given more time to file their information and disclosures at the Suva High Court.

Umesh Prasad is alleged to have committed these offences between 1st January 2010 to 31st October 2013 while serving as a teacher in a school in Nasinu.

High Court Judge Justice Salesi Temo has ordered that the information and disclosures should be finalised by the 29th of this month.

A bail ruling will also be delivered at the next mention date.

Prasad is no longer employed by the Education Ministry.

He has pleaded not guilty.
