No Australian High Commissioner until genuine partnership - PM
Fiji’s Prime Minister, Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama said he will not appoint an Australian High Commissioner to Fiji any time soon as the Australian government is trying everything to damage Fiji.

Commodore Bainimarama told Fijivillage that he will not change his stance easily as he wants a genuine partnership.

Commodore Bainimarama said he only has issues with the Australian politicians in the way they are going behind the scenes and looking at ways to hurt Fiji.

Commodore Bainimarama said Australia’s overbearing attitude towards the Pacific is evident.

Speaking as an immediate former Chairman of the Melanesian Spearhead Group, Commodore Bainimarama told NZ’s Radio Tarana that the asylum seeker issue is now a major problem as it is being shifted to Manus island in PNG.

Meanwhile Commodore Bainimarama said he has travelled to Russia, China, Hong Kong, Solomon Islands and Papua New Guinea over the past few months and updated them on the drafting of the new constitution, elections in September 2014, registration of more than half a million voters and the reforms that are currently underway.

He said the feedback is positive and encouraging.

Commodore Bainimarama said work is underway on having genuine democracy in Fiji for the first time next year.
