New fishing net and coastal park bring hope to Lavena women and community

Good news to the women of Lavena Village in Taveuni is that the government has handed over a fishing net as part of their commitment to supporting women fishers and strengthening local communities.

Minister for Fisheries, Alitia Bainivalu says as part of their plan they also paid a visit across Fiji and answered questions raised by the villagers, not just about their sectors but also about other government services.

Bainivalu says they will also officially hand over the Lavena Coastal Walk Park, a beautiful place with white sandy beaches, boat trips to stunning waterfalls that flow into the sea, and comfortable stays for both locals and visitors tomorrow.

She adds the Ministry of Forestry supported the training and helped build the walkway and other park facilities.

The Minister says this park will help the community earn money through eco-tourism — guided walks, boat rides to the waterfalls, and places to stay.
