134 students of Naweni District School in Cakaudrove now have a new classroom block and library, and two duplex quarters for teachers.

While officially opening the new school facility, Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama says all the new facilities have been built to a higher standard of resilience, from the foundation to the roof.

He adds the reality is storms like Cyclone Winston will become more stronger and frequent due to the effects of climate change.

The school sustained damages during Tropical Cyclone Winston and other previous cyclones.

Bainimarama says 95% of the school destroyed by Cyclone Winston was originally constructed without any building plans.

He also says every student in Fiji now has access to free quality education, free text books and government subsidized transportation.

While speaking to students Bainimarama says those who choose to continue with their education after graduating from secondary school also have more opportunities at their feet than any time in Fijian history.

Meanwhile, School Manager Akilo Sila says that it is a very big day for the school as teachers, students and parents of Naweni District School were filled with immense joy after the opening of the $1.65 million school building.
