Over 23,000 residents of districts of Nadogo, Dogotuki, Udu, and Namuka in Macuata are expected to benefit from the new government station that will be constructed in Wainikoro, Macuata.
The project is fully funded by the government and close to $1 million is allocated for the construction of a district office and two residential quarters.
While officiating at the groundbreaking ceremony, Minister for Rural and Maritime Development Dr. Mahendra Reddy says the new office will bring relief to villages and communities who previously had to travel by bus for long hours to Labasa Town and get access basic government services.
Dr. Reddy says it is government's main priority to be committed to enhancing service delivery to rural and maritime communities and emphasizing development of these communities.
He says that through the construction of the new office, the Ministry of Rural and Maritime Development is encouraging co-location and co-sharing of services under the portfolios of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural and Maritime Development and Waterways and Environment.
The new government station will provide the issuing of birth certificates, marriage certificates, canteen or hawkers licenses, development issues, security issues, food security and other ancillary services.
