Health Minister Doctor Ifereimi Waqainabete

Within just a week after his appointment as the Health Minister, Doctor Ifereimi Waqainabete has already come up with some plans to change and improve the service delivery of hospitals.

The Minister has implemented a four hour rule where no beds should be on the corridor of any department of any hospital for more than 4 hours.

This was highlighted by the Acting Medical Superintendent of CWM Hospital, Dr James Fong.

Dr Fong says that this was implemented after the new Health Minister took a walk down CWM Hospital right up to the Emergency Department where he saw beds on the corridor.

He says that this will ease the shortage of beds.

Dr Fong also spoke about the hygiene at CWM Hospital that is usually the talk of their operations.

He says the cleaning services have now been outsourced.

Dr Fong says that now they have a specific budget for preventing hospital acquired infections.
