There needs to be global action against the rise in Non-Communicable Diseases.

Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama said there is urgent need for action by the international community to curb this global health epidemic.

Speaking at the UN General Assembly in the high level meeting on the prevention and control of NCDs, Commodore Bainimarama said that in the Pacific Islands, NCDs have been declared a crisis requiring action in view of the development and economic implications of NCDs.

The Prime Minister told the delegates in the UN Meeting in New York that Fiji’s national efforts to tackle NCDs could be enhanced by support from relevant international organizations and partners in the form of technical assistance, transfer of technology and access to high quality generic medicine.

Health Minister Doctor Neil Sharma and Fiji’s National Advisor on NCDs Doctor Isimeli Tukana are also attending the UN high level meeting.
