SODELPA MP, Niko Nawaikula is maintaining that calling the native Fijians iTaukei has reduced their worth to be second class.

Nawaikula says he made comments in parliament about the FijiFirst government stealing the identity of indigenous people by using Fijian to equalise all races that are born in the country because previous laws stated that the indigenous people are to be called Fijians.

He says it is unfortunate and unnecessary that this was done as he claimed that this has caused confusion in the iTaukei community.
