The village of Navutulevu in Serua has implemented a strict rule to deter their villagers from getting involved in the drug trade, as those found breaking this rule will not be allowed to live or return to the village.

Navutulevu Headman Uraia Ratulevu says this rule was discussed during their village meeting and they have also informed the Serua Provincial Council Office.

He says two weeks ago, a 30-year-old man was arrested on his farm and is now in the remand centre after marijuana was discovered.

He adds that youths are now working on some village projects to utilise their leisure time, such as setting up solar lights and constructing the village water tank base.

The Headman says when drug issues, rape, and other illegal activities occur in the village, it always points back to the family and whether parents and guardians are fulfilling their responsibilities.
