Navua man charged with grandmother’s alleged murder

A 25-year-old man has been charged by the Criminal Investigations Department with allegedly murdering his 59-year-old grandmother in Naitonitoni in Navua.

The alleged murder took place on the 24th of June.

Assistant Commissioner of Police – Crime ACP Mesake Waqa says following the accused arrest on the 25th of June, 2024, he was escorted to the Saint Giles Hospital for psychiatric evaluation and was released back into police custody on the 6th of August 2024.

After being questioned, independent legal advice was sought from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, sanctioning the charge of murder.

Police say the accused has since been charged and will be produced at the Navua Magistrates Court today.
