Minister for Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations, Parveen Bala has confirmed the National Occupational Health and Safety team will be carrying out an investigation into the death of the 65-year-old Naikabula woman after a tree branch fell on her outside Suva Market yesterday afternoon.

Bala says he had a discussion with the team this morning and further action will be taken once the investigation is completed.

When asked if the woman’s family will be given some sort of compensation, Bala says they need to carry out their investigation before any other processes are followed.

Meanwhile, Police are also investigating the woman’s death.

The woman from Lautoka had come to Suva to sell mangoes at the market.

She was rushed to the CWM Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
