Hundreds of community members gathered for the World Elderly Abuse Awareness Day Celebration and Nasinu Volleyball Tournament at the Valelevu Multipurpose Court where the importance of protecting our elderly and fostering community unity was highlighted.

The Nasinu Town Council which hosted the event says 50 senior citizens were honoured with a garlanding ceremony, followed by performances from the Muanikoso Dance Group, which added a vibrant cultural element to the event.

The say the event also saw the presentation of shopping vouchers to the invited senior citizens as a gesture of appreciation.

The Council says the Nasinu Volleyball Tournament featured 30 teams and over 300 regular participants, showcasing competitive matches that highlighted the community's sportsmanship and enthusiasm.

They say the event was not just a celebration but also an opportunity for community members to engage and participate actively.

They add the presence of diverse age groups, from senior citizens to young athletes, underscored the event's success in bringing the community together.

Nasinu Town Council Special Administrator Chair, Felix Magnus the day was a testament to what the community can achieve when they come together with a common purpose.

The Nasinu Town Council says they hope that the success of this event will pave the way for future initiatives aimed at raising awareness about elderly abuse and promoting youth engagement.

They add plans are already underway to make this an annual event, ensuring ongoing support for the community's needs.
