As the FASANOC board gets ready to meet today to discuss the matters regarding Fiji’s failed bid to host the 2031 Pacific Games, one of the FASANOC Vice Presidents, Ioane Naivalurua has confirmed he has resigned from his position.

When contacted by fijivillage News, Naivalurua says he decided to leave because he believes FASANOC could have done better in the bid for the Pacific Games.

Naivalurua also confirms that he did not see the bid before it was presented in Palau.

He says he wishes he could have contributed more.

Naivalurua, who is the President of Basketball Fiji, says resigning from FASANOC does not affect basketball as the sporting federation will carry on with it’s work.

President of FASANOC, Makarita Lenoa says it is her responsibility to provide the facts to all the sporting federations tomorrow, and especially their member national federations and their membership.

Lenoa says she wants to assure them all, that Fiji‘s bid, with the vision “Athletes Centred and Legacy Led” was presented according to the Bid Guidelines and Protocols as required by the Pacific Games Council.

Members of various sporting federations have raised concerns with fijivillage News regarding this and there has been a public outcry.

Former 5-time Olympic swimmer Carl Probert says Fiji’s failure to make a strong and competitive bid to host the 2031 games remains a concern for him and the country.

Similar sentiments were echoed by the Fiji Weightlifting Federation President, Della Shaw who voiced her frustrations saying they want answers as there was no consultation with the national sporting federations on the bid before it was presented.

She says the sporting bodies are awaiting answers and it will be interesting to know what Fiji had offered on the values of progression in the bid.
