Fire in Urau Place in Nadawa

A family in Nadawa has been left homeless after a devastating fire destroyed their home in Urau Place last night.

In an interview with fijivillage News, Suresh Chand, who has lived in Nadawa for 37 years, says he and his wife were watching TV when they noticed the smoke.

Chand says he tried to control the fire, but he couldn't breathe because of the smoke.

He says the neighbouring houses are too close, so he alerted them to prevent the fire from spreading and asked for help.

Chand expressed concerns about the firefighters' response time.

Meanwhile, the National Fire Authority says that the Command Centre received the initial call at 7.45pm, after which firefighters from the Valelevu and Nakasi Fire Stations attended the scene.

NFA says more details will be given after the completion of the incident report.
