NFA looking into claims of late response by firefighters to Raiwaqa fire

The National Fire Authority has confirmed it is looking into claims of the late response by firefighters to the fire that destroyed a four bedroom house in Hibiscus Lane in Raiwaqa on Saturday afternoon.

Homeowner, Timaima Vulimailaucala says the NFA took too long to respond.

She says she received a call from her 18 year old daughter who was home alone when the fire started at around 12.50pm.

Vulimailaucala says, upon receiving the call from her daughter she started calling NFA on the emergency number 917 and it was answered by customer service.

She says when she reached home after returning from Cost U Less, firefighters were still not at the scene.

Vulimailaucala claims when firefighters eventually reached her home, there were no fire hydrants in the area so they had to wait for another two fire trucks to bring water as there was not enough water in the first fire truck.

The mother and her three children have lived in the four bedroom house since 2008.

Investigations are still underway to determine the cause of the fire.
