The 43-year-old mother who is charged with one count of act with intent to cause bodily harm to her 16-year-old daughter has been granted bail by the Suva High Court.

Maria Waqasaqa has been released on a non-cash bail of $1,000, needs to have 2 sureties, she has to appear in court on all occasions when the case is called, she cannot change her address without the court's permission and has to surrender her passport to the court.

Waqasaqa’s lawyer also requested for the case to be transferred to the Nasinu Magistrates Court.

She will now appear in the Nasinu Court on the 3rd of April.

It is alleged that Waqasaqa hit her 16-year-old daughter with a mop stick several times on her left shoulder and also threw an empty beer bottle on her head.
