More police vehicles are needed - Qiliho

An urgent review is needed to establish the amount of vehicles needed by the Fiji Police Force as the last review was done back in the 1980s.

Acting Police Commissioner Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho says they are thankful to get 19 new vehicles from the government after the signing of the new vehicle leasing agreement with Asco Motors.

However more vehicles are needed.

According to statistics released by the Police, the total number of vehicles needed is 264.

The force currently has 226 vehicles.

They have 88 leased vehicles however 8 are grounded at the garage for repairs.

Another 77 are being used by the different units while 38 are grounded at the police garages for repairs.

117 vehicles are more than 10 years old.
