Moneta and Ciofani named 2021 World Rugby Men’s and Women’s 7s Player of the Year
Argentina's Marcos Moneta and France’s Anne-Cécile Ciofani

Argentina's Marcos Moneta and France’s Anne-Cécile Ciofani are the Men’s and Women’s 7s Player of the Year respectively.

Moneta had shown glimpses of his potential on the HSBC World Rugby 7s Series in 2020 but it was at the Olympic Games in Tokyo that he announced his name to the world with six tries to finish as top try-scorer as Argentina won the bronze medal.

Olympic gold medalists Napolioni Bolaca and Jiuta Wainiqolo were also nominated for this award.

Ciofani breaks the dominance of Australia and New Zealand in the women’s category.

The 27-year-old crossed for seven tries in Tokyo, only failing to do so in the opening match against Fiji, as France claimed a silver medal.

Fiji’s Alowesi Nakoci and Reapi Ulunisau were nominated for this award.

The award was based on the number of votes from fans.
