Ministry to issue an official statement following the death of a Year 8 student

The Ministry of Health has confirmed that it is aware of a case involving the death of a Year 8 student after she received an injection from visiting nurses at Khemendra Primary School in Savusavu.

A Health Ministry spokesperson says they will be issuing an official statement on the case soon.

The father of the student, Jeswan Prasad says his daughter started feeling sick after getting the injection and collapsed in the bathroom at home yesterday.

He says they took her daughter to the hospital but it was too late as she passed away.

Prasad says they are now awaiting the medical report.

The parents have also filed a complaint with Savusavu police and have met with the Legal Aid Commission to consider the legal options they can take.

Questions have also been sent to the Education Ministry as the student received the injection in school.

We will have more later this afternoon.
