Ministry of Local Government receives 2 Mahindra vehicles from the Indian High Commission

The Ministry of Housing and Local Government today received two Mahindra twin cab vehicles handed over by the High Commission of India to be used by the Rakiraki and Tavua Town Council.

While receiving the two vehicles, the Minister for Housing and Local Government Maciu Katamotu says this will help the council to carry out their work efficiently.

The Minister says the handing over is a milestone for the two town councils as they did not have a vehicle and were facing great challenges over the years in serving the ratepayers of both Rakiraki and Tavua Towns.

Katamotu says due to the little financial streams provided to the Rakiraki and Tavua Town Council, there is a greater dependency on the national grant and government partners.

He says as such, the Municipal Councils have collaborated with some development partners in different areas with the focus of enhancing the presence of the council.

He adds that this symbolises the continued support between the two countries and hopes that the relationship will carry on until the future.

The Minister acknowledged the continued support from the Indian High Commission and for their timely support of providing the vehicles.
