The Ministry of Economy is urging Fijians to be honest when applying for ration packs as there have been a number of instances where individuals are trying to cheat the system.

The Coordinator for the supply and distribution of rations, Kamal Gounder says they have had cases where more than one person from the same family is applying for rations by giving false information.

Gounder say their data verification team has caught people trying to cheat the system.

He has stressed that other families should not be deprived of timely and much-needed rations just because one person is being dishonest.

Gounder is also urging Fijians to observe COVID-19 safety protocols such as wearing of masks and physical distancing when rations are delivered to them by their teams.

He says delivery teams have highlighted the risk due to people not following protocols.

Gounder says delivery teams will return without distributing rations if people do not adhere to proper COVID-19 protocols. He says this is for the safety of their teams.
