The Lands ministry is now taking a strong stand against those people illegally occupying state land.
Permanent Secretary for Lands Lieutenant Colonel Neumi Leweni said that a directive has been issued to minimize the number of squatter settlements.
Leweni said that Government will now implement measures to discourage the illegal occupation of land.
Leweni said that for years a lot has been lost in revenue due to illegal squatters which could have been generated from these lands.
According to Leweni once the number of squatters is reduced, Government will be able to make more land available for productive use to ensure maximum returns to the nation and also contribute to a dynamic land reform in Fiji.
