A 40 year old Military Officer appeared in the Nausori Magistrates Court this afternoon for his alleged involvement in a hit and run accident in Mokani, Tailevu on Sunday which caused the death of a 19 year old man.
Sitiveni Tukaituraga has been charged with one count of dangerous driving occasioning death and one count of failure to comply with requirements following an accident.
Divisional Prosecuting Officer Eastern, Yasin Ali asked the court for Tukaituraga to be remanded in custody until he makes a formal bail application.
He has been remanded in custody and the matter has been adjourned till next Monday.
Police say Tukaituraga was arrested after investigators viewed CCTV cameras and conducted house to house enquiries following information gathered from members of the public.
According to Police, the man was sleeping on the side of the road when the alleged incident occurred.
A man walking nearby heard the sounds of the accident and found the man’s body.
