Men drag and beat their wives under signboards - Akbar
Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation, Rosy Akbar

Strange reports have surfaced where men have dragged their wives to zero tolerance to violence signboards and have beaten them underneath the boards.

This revelation was made in Parliament today by Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation, Rosy Akbar while making her Ministerial statement on Domestic Violence Against Women.

Akbar said this is the attitude that needs to be changed.

She has made a plea to all Fijian men to take a good look at themselves and ask whether they are doing everything to show respect for the women around him.

Akbar told the parliamentarians that they will be establishing a 24 hour Domestic Violence Help-line Service where people who experience or witness domestic violence can talk to trained counselors.

While providing SODELPA’s response, Salote Radrodro said they have only heard lip service from the Minister for Women.
