Today was a historic moment for the people of Taveuni as they welcomed the Melrose Cup and their heroes who were part of the winning Rugby World Cup 7s team in Cape Town earlier this month.

Fiji Airways Men’s National 7s forwards Iosefo Masi and Jeremaia Matana who both hail from Waitabu village, Taveuni travelled with the trophy today to celebrate with their families on the island.

Robust forward, Elia Canakaivata joined Masi and Matana for this celebration.

Their arrival brought smiles and tears of joy to the people of Taveuni as they waited and welcomed the prestigious trophy in their villages and schools.

Meanwhile, the villagers of Waitabu are currently having a big celebration for their sons.
