The Military's Land Force Commander, Colonel Pita Driti said the media should have taken heed of his comments a few weeks ago.
According to Colonel Driti, controls have to be put on the media now through the Public Emergency Regulation because it has been irresponsible.
Although Colonel Driti agrees that the media is needed in Fiji, he said all media outlets should be responsible.
The Public Emergency Regulation remains in force and under Section 16, it states that where the Permanent Secretary for Information has reason to believe that any broadcast or publication may give rise to disorder, or promote disaffection or public alarm, or undermine the Government and State of Fiji, he or she may, by order, prohibit such broadcast or publication.
Any person or entity which fails in any way whatsoever to comply with the provisions of this section may be ordered by the Commissioner of Police or Officer Commanding upon advice from the Permanent Secretary for Information to cease all activities and operations.
