Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre Coordinator, Shamima Ali

Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre Coordinator, Shamima Ali says the May 19th 2000 coup was one of the darkest times in Fiji’s history and in the lifetime of many people in the country.

Ali says people suffered a lot and many places were affected that included Viti Levu and Vanua Levu.

She says there was anarchy and Fiji was in chaos.

Ali says everyone particularly the young people must never forget these dark days and we must never repeat this.

She says we should continue to talk about the 1987, 2000 and 2006 coups and how it affected the people so that we never repeat the same mistake again.
