The government has today stressed that it will not allow the mass gathering of Methodist Church officials, ministers and lay preachers during their planned ministerial meeting from next week.
Permanent Secretary for Information and Military spokesperson Lietenant Colonel Neumi Leweni said as far as the government is concerned, no permit has been given to have a gathering at Furnival Park and a mass ministerial meeting in Suva.
Lieutenant Colonel Leweni also made it clear on who will be allowed to attend the extended Standing Committee meeting if the permit is granted.
Assistant General Secretary of the Methodist Church Reverend Tevita Nawadra had earlier said that the Police Commissioner had granted them a permit to have a ministerial meeting of all the church ministers around the country in Suva, hold divisional meetings and a Church Solevu or fundraising drive at Furnival Park for a week from next Saturday.
However, Lieutenant Colonel Leweni said the government's permit condition is clear that no mass gatherings will be allowed at Furnival Park and also no mass gatherings will be allowed of all the church ministers, officials and lay preachers.
