A 32-year-old man who raped his landlord’s 3-year-old child has been sentenced to 12 years imprisonment by High Court Judge Justice Daniel Goundar.

While sentencing the man, Justice Goundar says children in our community are being sexually abused at an alarming rate everyday.

He says what is more appalling is that more children are being abused in their homes by the people they trust.

Justice Goundar says in this case, the victim was vulnerable due to her tender age and the child was abused in her home where she should have been safe.

The incident happened in April last year in Suva.

A non-parole period of 9 years has been set.
