A 66-year-old man from Bua has been sentenced to 13 years imprisonment for sexually assaulting and raping his 6-year-old granddaughter.
High Court Judge Justice Salesi Temo says incidents occurred between January 24th, 2011 to August 15th, 2016.
The girl was 6 years old in 2011.
The man and his wife had brought up their granddaughter since she was young.
While sentencing the man, Justice Temo said that the young girl had trusted her grandfather and she expected him to look after her, give her security and protect her from the evils of this world.
Justice Temo said that the man did the unthinkable and raped and sexually assaulted the young girl.
He also said that the man threatened to kill her if she told anyone about the incident
