Man who allegedly lied about his car getting stolen remanded

The 48-year-old mechanic who allegedly lied to Police about the theft of his car has been remanded in custody by the Nasinu Magistrates Court.

Philip Rohit Mordley is charged with one count of giving false information to a public servant.

Police say a report was received from the man last Thursday that someone had stolen his vehicle which he had parked near his house at Davies Street, Davuilevu Housing.

They say, as a result, roadblocks were erected as per the normal measures adopted to stop the vehicle from moving into another Division and all officers were alerted to conduct searches and keep a lookout for the vehicle.

Police add, however, as investigators questioned the mechanic further, he allegedly admitted to lying about the incident as the vehicle was involved in an accident at Koronivia the day prior to the report being lodged.

The vehicle was later found at a Towing Company Base in Nausori.

The case has been adjourned to the 4th of November.
