A 41-year-old man has been jailed for 6 years, 8 months and 6 days by High Court Judge Justice Daniel Goundar for breaking into a home and stealing items worth $2,498.

Justice Goundar sentenced Viliame Gukisuva to 8 years imprisonment but considered his time in remand as part of the time served.

He is charged with one count each of aggravated burglary and theft.

Gukisuva broke into a home in Nasinu in April last year and stole 2 mobile phones, a tablet, a wrist watch and $6 cash.

While sentencing the man, Justice Goundar said Gukisuva had 14 previous convictions but the offences were committed 10 years before this case.

Gukisuva can apply for parole after serving 3 years, 8 months and 6 days in prison.
